Half Marathon Overview

The Half Marathon course was designed and measured by Tom Bunk and Craig Swartwout (Trail Marking and Course Management).  The two-loop 13.1 mile course begins and ends in the finish area near the Nordic Trail parking lot.

The Half Marathon course will be marked with yellow ground arrows.

Section 1 is the Nordic trailhead to the Tamarack Aid Station (AS1; 2.2 miles).  Your race will start on the Purple Trail and proceed .62 miles to a short access trail that takes you to the Green Trail.  At the Green Trail, turn right, then merge onto the Blue Trail.   Referring to the race map, you are running in a counterclockwise direction from AS2 to AS1.

Section 2 is the Tamarack Aid Station (AS1) back to the Starting area (AS2).  When you reach AS1 (only fluids will be provided at this station), you will continue on the Blue Trail for another 4.3 miles back to the Starting area.

Enjoy your run on the Blue Nordic Trail.  The trails are very wide and scenic.  This section of the loop is very representative of the glacial topography and natural diversity that you can expect in the Kettle Moraine.

The trail here is very runnable – easy on the feet and joints.  There will be sections in the pines and meadows where you will want to pick up your pace.   Many areas that were once rocky have been wood chipped over to help skiers save their equipment.

When you return to the Starting area, you’re halfway there.  AS2 will have plenty of aid and supplies and there’s a restroom only a few yards away, if needed.  Loop two is a repeat of the first.  When you reach the Tamarack Aid Station on your second loop, you are less than 4.5 miles from the finish.  Depending on your pace, you may encounter some 50k runners along this stretch.
